Cheaper light-up heels

If you only want light-up heels for a one-off photoshoot or party, there are unbranded pairs on Amazon for under £30, such as clear light-up stilettos and 15cm light-up platform sandals. They’re new listings with no reviews yet, so check the size guide and the returns policy before you buy. For regular pole classes, we’d still choose Pleaser.

How do light-up heels work?

Light-up platform heels have LED lights and a rechargeable battery built into the sole. You charge them with a USB cable, then turn them on with a small button or switch on the underside of the shoe. Press it again to cycle through the colours and light patterns.

  • Charging: plug the cable into a USB wall plug and the port on the shoe. They usually blink while charging. A full charge takes around 4 to 6 hours.
  • Battery life: up to about 4 hours on a solid colour. Flashing modes use more power, so expect less, maybe around 1.5 hours.
  • Turning them off: press and hold the button until the lights go out.

Top tip: use a solid colour mode in class to make the battery last, and save the flashing patterns for photos and performances.

Which height should I choose?

Light-up heels come in 7in and 8in heights. If you’re new to platforms, start with a 7in pair like the Flashdance-708 or Illuminator-709. Already comfortable in 7s? The 8in Discolite-809, Illuminator-808 or Flashdance-1020-8 add extra height. Not sure? Read our guide to 6 inch heels first.

What if my light-up heels stop working?

First check the cable and plug by trying a different one. If it’s definitely the shoes and they’re fairly new, contact the shop you bought them from, as they should be able to replace them. Occasionally a wire comes loose from the battery pack inside the shoe. We wouldn’t buy light-up heels second-hand unless you can see them working first.

A bit of history

Light-up trainers became a craze in the early 1990s, and a 1979 patent even described “illuminated dancing shoes” with lights in a clear plastic heel. Pleaser has since brought the idea to pole heels, and they look amazing on stage or in a pole shoe photoshoot.
